Whether for free, for fun, or for a fee, here’s how to start your public speaking
I did my first public speaking gig when I was 19. I was asked to speak at my Dad’s conference about “my experience as a millennial” (you know, back in the day when we were all the rage) Since then, I’ve gone on to give hundreds of talks and speaking engagements.
While many of these originally were for free, eventually, they transitioned into paid speaking engagements with corporate companies, higher education institutions, industry organizations and nonprofits. Inevitably, when I talk to friends and colleagues many of them ask me how I got started in this space as they have aspirations of doing the same, so I wanted to put together a guide and framework for how those of you who want to start doing more public speaking can start taking actions on this right away.
Whether you’re a professional in an industry at the top of your game, or just getting started in a new field, I believe that there are significant personal and professional benefits from engaging in public speaking. And this is true whether you are doing this just for fun, or you hope to make this into a side-business or full-time business (more on that later)
What are the benefits of starting public speaking?
